Matt & Brittany | Camp engagement session

Brittany and Matt are two beautiful rays of sunshine and I loved every minute of this engagement session. Their A-frame camp on the river, the landing in the woods where Matt proposed, the state forest where they spend time fishing.. It was all so personal and so perfect!

New Year, Shmew Year (that sounded better in my head)

It's the first full week of the new year which means everyone is setting ambitious and (possibly) unrealistic goals for themselves. I get it, a fresh start.. A clean slate, but doesn't it feel like we're putting too much pressure on ourselves sometimes?

For instance, it's January 4th and my list of things to work on is already grocery list - length:

Re-do website, check. (ha! Take that, new year.. already checked something off my list)
Blog more
Spend less time on my computer, working and more time being present (I realize this absolutely contradicts the whole 'Blog More' thing.. see what I'm saying about unrealistic goals?)
Work on my patience
Be less anxious (easier said than done, ya'll)
Go on more adventures
Shoot more film
Spend less money (again, contradicting myself because shooting film is hella $$$)
Workout more, eat less sugar (The Balash household is currently on our second sugar-detox cleanse. This one I'm actually pretty confident we will NAIL, just sayin')
Plant (and successfully grow) a garden this summer. hashtag black thumb problems.

phew. Looking over this list, I'm already fairly sure that half of these will go out the window within a matter of months... okay, weeks. Who am I kidding? But ya know what, that's okay. I guess It IS pretty great that everyone is trying to better themselves.

..Does "it's the thought that counts" apply to New Year Resolutions? Because some of the ones on my list may be just that.. A thought.

Happy New Year, guys.. Here's to a year of bettering yourself, a year of contradictions (like me), or a year of staying exactly the same because you're perfect (go, you!). Whatever you do, I hope it's great.

Dear Arlo | 10 & 11 months

Dear Arlo,

I don’t have to tell you because you already know, but for record’s sake, I will remind you and label this past month as the month of chaos. We spent all of November packing and unpacking, moving into our new home and getting settled in. December made a dramatic entrance when mommy got Shingles, you got Roseola, and you had your first trip to the E.R. with a 104 fever. It was so incredibly heart wrenching to watch you scream in pain and not be able to help you. I am constantly taken aback by how deeply I feel, as a momma, and In that hospital room pacing back and forth holding you as you sobbed.. I would’ve given anything to take away your discomfort. Thankfully you are back to your normal, healthy self as we prepare for your first Christmas.. We are surely more excited than you are, and are also pretty sure that you’ll spend Christmas morning playing with the boxes that your gifts are packaged in, but that’s okay with us. This holiday season is so much more magical and special with you here. This time last year, your dad and I were sitting on the couch playing Skipbo and talking about how strange It would be to have a little baby crawling around at Christmas time. Now I’m looking into the living room, watching him play peek-a-boo with you, as your scrunching your nose and giggling. Time is crazy, and next time I write to you, you will be 12 months old. It seems unreal that a year has almost passed.

Call me super cheesy, girl, but you are the best gift we could’ve ever asked for.

I love you,  baby bird.

(Also, that time we put you in your cousin’s hand-me-over snow suit that was huge and made you look like you were wearing a potato sack…  hashtag fashion fale.
Also, Also, that time we sat on the floor of our empty old house, surrounded by overflowing boxes.. trying to capture some last photos in your first home. I hope someday we look back at those photographs and remember the excitement, anxiousness and the tiny bit of sadness we felt about moving into a new home.  )

The Piland Family

A few weeks ago, I gave away a mini session on my facebook page. The Piland's were the first to contact me about it,  and we got together to shoot a short little family session on a chilly Sunday afternoon. It feels so good to be back at it photographing amazing people again! If you are someone that contacted me about the giveaway (there were SO many!), I will be posting more giveaways and some 'pop -up' discounted sessions throughout the year, so be on the lookout.

Arlo | newborn

Welcome to a new little corner of the blog! This space will be filled with all things parenthood, motherhood and Arlo related.

Somehow, 5 weeks have passed by and I have yet to share some of the newborn images that I snapped of Arlo in her first weeks of life. I won't lie, I'm still feeling pretty overwhelmed over here, so If you're waiting for an email or message response, I'm getting to you- sorry it's taking so long! I will also start taking sessions again in a few weeks (look for a post on my facebook page).

In the meantime, here's a little bit of newborn goodness..
